Select your student status and review the steps outlined for the type of travel you will be doing.
If you are traveling as part of a VT study abroad group faculty led program:
- Apply for the program with the Global Education Office (GEO) at vtabroad@vt.edu
- Note: Complete all requirements, faculty leader will work with GEO for additional requirements
- Faculty leader should complete preapproval in the Chrome River System
If you are traveling individually for transfer credit, such as exchange programs, internships, direct enroll or third party providers:
- Apply for the program with the Global Education Office (GEO) at vtabroad@vt.edu
- Note: Complete all additional requirements as specified by the GEO
- Department must complete preapproval in the Chrome River System
If you are traveling as part of a VT led group travel experience for no credit, such as competitions, service learning, etc.:
- Submit the Virginia Tech Global Travel Assessment form for review and approval
- Turn in required co-curricular international program forms
- Purchase CISI travel insurance
- Register U.S. citizens with the US Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
- Request a traveler’s emergency card

If you are traveling individually for no credit, such as for conferences, research, internships:

- Complete Hokie Sentenial Global Travel Assessment and submit to GEO
